Fiore dei Liberi dagger – out of armour

Description: The class will focus on Fiore dei Liberi’s dagger section, unarmed against dagger and then dagger against dagger, covering offence, defence and counters.

The class requires no previous knowledge of any martial art, though any knowledge will be advantageous.

A safe rondel dagger simulator is required (rolled-up and taped magazine will do) – should be about 30-40cm.

The class is open to as many as the hall can take.

Medieval daggerwork – some basics

Description: The class handles concepts, most common attacks, ways of warding and evading + the importance of ‘fuhlen’ in medieval daggerwork, be it from German or Italian manuscripts. Both for beginners and advanced.

Exploring the scissors and pommelhook in medieval dagger work

Description: The scissors are a specific technique that can be found in both German and Italian period manuscripts.  Through different flow drills and other exercises, one will explore the opportunities to use the scissors (and in a later stage the pommelhook) in a daggerfight. Specific drills are made physically challenging in order to bring about a more realistic combat mode.  Both for beginners and advanced.

Using a flexible tool against dagger: an extrapolation of medieval techniques

Description: Starting with what Fiore Dei Liberi wrote on the use of a cord and a hat to perform some techniques of the short stick and dagger, we commence our exploration and see how a flexible tool can be of assistance in daggerwork, using medieval techniques and principles as a basis. A fun workshop that teaches new and  different types of skills.  Both for beginners and the advanced.

Requirements: Dagger; fencing mask; throat protection; a flexible tool (cord).  We provide in about 16 flexible tools ourselves.
