Description: We work through the basics of entering into grappling distance safely and what to do when there. We cover all the basic techniques (more or less everything that is in Ringeck and then some).
No prerequisite knowledge required, but it's more fun if your partner knows basic breakfalling :-) The class works best on grass or wrestling mats, but can be held in an ordinary salle as well (it's just slightly less fun!)

Description: A slightly more advances and specialized class where we work through the Ringen am Schwert techniques presented in Codex Wallerstein, many of which are unique to that manuscript. All classes are about two hours but can easily be extended to three. Classes are held in English or Swedish, though I will understand (most likely) and answer questions in German as well.

Longsword, Bastard Sword
Description: The Codex Dbringer (HS.3227a) mentions a training drill or flourish that is very vague in its description. This lesson will examine the flourish and demonstrate different interpretations of the flourish itself as well as assorted drills, techniques and concepts contained within the performance of the flourish against single and multiple opponents. At the end of the session individuals will have gained not only some new techniques for their repertoire but also a new point of view with regard to choreographed sequences of movements for training purposes.
The class is open to as many individuals as the venue can hold.
Duration: 2-4 hours.
Requirements: For this class you will need a longsword, a mask and a pair of gloves (type and level of protection not too important, just protect your hands) and you should already know about techniques such as the Zwerhaw and Schrankhut as these will feature prominently in the lesson; this lesson may not be suitable for raw beginners, but a basic knowledge of the different techniques and guards will be perfectly adequate.

Club: Academy of Historical Arts
Description: There are many examples of low guards being used in both defensive and offensive fashions in the manuscript sources for the extended Liechtenauer tradition of longsword. In fact, one of the primary four guards is held near the ground, and other low guards are described from the earliest known treatise to the later treatises in the tradition. Practitioners of this discipline often favour such guards as Vom Tag and inexperienced swordsmen often favour an extended form of Pflug, but lower guards tend to be overlooked in this style of fighting. Practitioners of other HEMA disciplines (such as the longsword of Fiore dei Liberi) tend to be more comfortable with these positions, but fight from them in a different fashion.
The purpose of this lesson is to illustrate from sources some examples of low guards used in both a defensive and offensive manner. Further extrapolations have also been included to illustrate how the core principles of Liechtenauer's system can be applied to elements of the system that have little written about them.
The class is open to as many individuals as the venue can hold.
Duration: 2-3 hours.
Requirements: For this class you will need a longsword, a mask and a pair of gloves (type and level of protection not too important, just protect your hands); this lesson may not be suitable for raw beginners, but a basic knowledge of how to handle a longsword (irrespective of style) would be helpful.

Description: An introductory class to the basics of the Swedish system of military sabre fencing. This more or less also works as a general introductory class to the heavy sabre as a weapon, since at this level the Swedish system isn't all that different from i.e. Hutton, and I try to point out the differences where and when they do come up. No prerequisite knowledge required.
Duration: Unspecified

Description: A class that presupposes at least basic knowledge of some sabre system or other, it doesn't have to be Swedish. This class focuses on the things that make the Swedish system stand out as different, like its techniques with passing footwork and lots of attacking out of line. I also work through how some graqppling and disarming can be (reasonably) safely worked into the system.

Description: The basked hilted broadsword has been a weapon favoured by the Scots for centuries; in fact the officers even in the Scottish regiments of the British Army today carry a broadsword instead of a more normal sabre! The weapon is characterised by the protective basket that surrounds the hand, allowing the sword to be held out in front of the body in a fight. There are a number of manuals that discuss how to use the broadsword in a fight and this lesson will provide an introduction to the general principles and techniques described throughout the various manuals, rather than following a single source. This would be an ideal preparatory lesson for people who would like to study the Scottish fighting traditions a little further by looking into using the targe in the off-hand.
The class is open to as many individuals as the venue can hold.
Duration: 2-3 hours.
Requirements: For this class you will need a synthetic or wooden basket hilted broadsword simulator (with some kind of basket to protect the hand) and a mask. Elbow protectors would be a good idea but not essential; gloves are optional as the basket should protect the hand! No knowledge of the broadsword or sabre is required, this lesson is suitable for complete beginners, but can be tailored for more advanced individuals who already know a little about sabre or broadsword from other sources.
